Quarterly Review
Corazon Quebrado at the XXXII International Ballet Festival of Nervi
The Heartbreak Milonga opened in Italy at last, with two sold out performances at the Porto Antico. The success has been really remarkable considering that the show was a premiere, Nueva Compania Tangueros the first Tango troupe invited by this titled Festival and the audience conservative reputed. Nevertheless, they ovationed the Company for a long time. The press has been generous as well. The headlines went like these:
"Love is a wonderful Tango " Il Secolo XIX
"The steps of love. A milonga beyond Death. Corazon Quebrado's astonishing success" La Repubblica
"Corazon Quebrado: the triumph of Tango" La Stampa
"TheTango sets fire to the Porto Antico. Compagnia Tangueros arouses enthousiasm" Corriere Mercantile
Just
one local and incorruptible journalist gave a negative opinion on the show,
using words and syntax that we can hardly reproduce here, but there will be a
spicy letter about this on The Tangueros Quarterly Review's next
issue.
Corazon Quebrado will
be touring Italy in February2001.
Tangueros Four Nights - the outcome of the summer tour
After
the Corazon Quebrado's premiere at
the Nervi International Festival on the past july, Nueva Compania
Tangueros continued the tour with Four Nights,
the show that Mariachiara Michieli and Marco Castellani dedicated
to four night-clubs in the swingin' Buenos Aires of the Sixties. Two
performances have been unforgettable to us. Whereas in Parma the
Teatro Regio perfect staging enabled the Company to perform
at its best and receive a terrific "stomping" ovation (see the
following review by Valentina Bonelli), on the other hand at the Greek
Theatre of Siracusa they put a spell on us. An enchanted night, a
bunch of Tangueros down in the cavea, the Sexteto
Canyengue in a state of grace and 6000 spectators on
the tiers, were the factors that created an emotion so strong that could have
melt those protected stones. And our hearts too.
"It is the most elegant and sophisticated in the world , the Tango that Nueva Compania Tangueros brought to Parma after four years at Teatro Regio's summer festival. The new Tangueros of today consist of five couples of young dancers from Buenos Aires, but the Company's spirit did not change; if anything, it seems to be even more sophisticated in its concept, in its way to dance the Tango. There is no trace of the kitschy folklore that is quite typical of many Argentine shows: there is just dance in here, plain style, elegance and beauty, and the conquered audience replies with endless cheers".
Valentina Bonelli - Gazzetta di Parma
